Notes from Redeemer Presbyterian

"The essence of sin is man substituting himself for God,
while the essence of salvation is God substituting Himself for man.
Man asserts himself against God and puts himself
where only God deserves to be; God sacrifices Himself for man
and puts Himself where only man deserves to be. Man claims
prerogatives which belong to God alone; God accepts
penalties which belong to man alone."
John Stott, The Cross of Christ

Almighty God, You poured Your Spirit upon Your gathered disciples
creating bold tongues, open ears, and a new community of faith. We confess that
we have quenched Your Spirit. We do not speak the good news of Your love,
listen to the word of Your grace, or live as people made alive in Christ.
In Your mercy, transform our timid lives by the power of Your spirit,
and fill us with a flaming desire to be Your faithful people, for the sake
of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
